I studied piano like a lot of people for about three or four years when I was a
kid. I could read enough to struggle through the easier sheet music. My interest is
primarily vocal, so I took up the guitar in college to accompany myself and played
with a group or two, no formal lessons though only all by ear. After ordering your
materials I can now play songs and although I still need to expand technique, it's
been the most fun I've had in ages. I now own about six fake books and love to sit

I learned how to play the piano in the early 90’s. Played it daily for 2 years. Then my family came over , became busy at home and at work and I stopped playing . I never cease to be amazed at how Scott teaches!!! Am I going to perform on Broadway? Absolutely not! At 66 years of age, I don't have a lot of "time" left for years and years of memorization and practicing. Every time Scott has introduced a new song, I have looked at it and thought, "I'll never get this." Then Scott breaks it down bit by bit, and lo and behold, I CAN DO IT!! I amaze myself! Am I going to become a concert pianist? Absolutely not, but that isn't what I want anyway. I want to be able to sit down at a piano and play some music...and Scott is enabling me to do just that!!! I always found it so hard to make my left hand do something different from the right. I find that these lessons just introduce gently the concept and offer suggestions that really help, like youtube videos. At this early stage I am impressed with the songs that I can play with two hands. I do need more practice and will need more ideas for different rhythms for my left hand, but Im sure that will come. I feel excited that I will actually become a piano player. I look forward to lots of practice time during the cold winter months. I love it.

I have no questions at this time. My only beef is that nothing like this was available when I was 10. I don't think it's a stretch to say that had I had this instruction then, my life would have taken a different turn. I'm not saying I would have been a professional musician, but I would have had a lot more fun in a lot more places, and my circle of friends would have been quite different.I liken the difference between Piano in a Flash and conventional lessons to the difference between learning how to drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission versus a straight stick. In each case, it's better to get the experience rolling, learn how the road feels and keep your destination in mind, without the distraction of more difficult details and complicated movements. The latter can be added later if desired and will make for an entirely different, richer experience, and that's fine. But at first, all you want to do is go somewhere.There's no reason for your company to get into this in your instruction, but I would like to know if you have any information about why the reading of notation stumps so many people. I began with piano at roughly age 6 and took lessons for three mostly unpleasant years. Later, in school, came drums, and after that I blundered into guitar, mandolin and bass, on my own. Over decades, I've purchased countless books and software packages on notation, technique and theory, and to this day, I have a baffling amount of trouble reading music. I have a good ear (I have absolute pitch), but reading notes is like wading through mud. I don't know why. As a result, I have great empathy for people with true learning disabilities, or people who, say, struggle with math or chemistry. Notation is my educational kryptonite.And I didn't help myself by thinking there was something faulty about playing by ear. Even though many musicians I admire read little if any music (Paul McCartney has done rather well for himself), it seemed to me as if they were ... cheating, in some way, and that their creations were not what they could be. This is malarkey, but it held me back from seeking someone who could teach an instrument by ear.To my knowledge, there were no such people anyway -- or at least, not until recently. A couple years ago, a local music store began offering group piano-by-ear lessons for adults -- seven weekly lessons for $200, plus $20 for a fake book. I was set to start these but held off because of COVID concerns. Then I learned of Piano in a Flash, and here we are.I don't know where this will end up, but I'm happy to have the opportunity to find out. And I hope you're coming up with an advanced course or courses. I expect to be ready.

I have now set myself up with my laptop on a stool next to my keyboard so I can watch the sessions. I haven’t managed many playing hours yet because things are a little busy but I am making progress thanks to Scott's amazing teaching strategies. I have had music lessons for various periods, decades ago. But, as Scott said, focussing on the notes for both hands makes it too much like hard work and minimal joy. And so much easier with timing to play as I know it to be, not as I read the note forms.
